The new Discworld novel from the master features the popular Sam Vimes, Commander of the City Watch.

Product Description

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a policeman taking a holiday would barely have had time to open his suitcase before he finds his first corpse. And Commander Sam Vimes of the Ankh-Morpork City Watch is on holiday in the pleasant and innocent countryside, but not for him a mere body in the wardrobe. There are many, many bodies and an ancient crime more terrible than murder. He is out of his jurisdiction, out of his depth, out of bacon sandwiches, and occasionally snookered and out of his mind, but never out of guile. Where there is a crime there must be a finding, there must be a chase and there must be a punishment. They say that in the end all sins are forgiven. But not quite all...

I am a huge fan of Terry Pratchett, and have every book in the Discworld Series.  This book is number 39 and it is excellent.  Sam Vimes character is brilliant and in this adventure he takes a little holiday to the Shires with his wife and son, only to  end up in the middle of a Murder Investigation... it could only happen to Sam!  I really enjoy the subtle humour and style of the writing, and always expecting the unexpected too!

A great read, a great book.

4.5 out of 5 from me

Enjoy all that is the Discworld

Until next time...

Product Description From Amazon.co.uk

Something deadly waits beneath the waves off Winter Harbour, and this summer, no one's safe. Seventeen-year-old Vanessa Sands is afraid of the dark. And heights. And the ocean. And pretty much everything else. Fortunately, Vanessa's fearless older sister, Justine, has always been there to comfort her. That is until Justine jumps off a cliff near their family's holiday home in Winter Harbour, her lifeless body washing ashore the next day. Everyone assumes that the tragedy is an accidental result of Justine's adventurous ways. Everyone, that is, except Vanessa. Vanessa returns to Winter Harbour alone, looking for answers from Caleb Carmichael, Justine's summer love who was with her when she jumped. But when Vanessa learns that Caleb has been missing since Justine's death, she joins forces with Caleb's older brother, Simon, to try to find him. Soon, it's not just Vanessa who is afraid. Panic sweeps through Winter Harbour as more bodies wash ashore, all male, each victim found grinning from ear to ear. And as the death toll mounts, Vanessa realises that to save Caleb and solve the mystery of her sister's death, she has to confront a secret she's kept for years - one that could end her summer romance with Simon and even life as she knows it. An utterly gripping paranormal romance for Twilight fans sick of copy-cat vampire novels but in love with paranormal romance.

I really enjoyed listening to the audio version of this novel, the narrator really brought the story to life.  I found it had more of a murder mystery type vibe, than a typical PNR, which was a nice change for this genre of book.  A really refreshing 'read' (listen!)  The characters are believable, and you can easily associate with how they deal with their situations, I also enjoyed the setting, in fact there was nothing that I didn't like.  All in all the author wrote a cracking novel!  Read it and enjoy!
I give it 4.5 out of 5
