The Twilight Saga ~ Stephenie Meyer

The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer

Unless you've been living under a bushel for the last few years, you must have surely heard of the phenomenon that is The Twilight Saga.

I have been listening to this series of books for the last few weeks and thought rather than multiple posts, I would just do one that covers them all.

Here are the product descriptions from www.amazon.co.uk

Product Description

When 17 year old Isabella Swan moves to Forks, Washington to live with her father she expects that her new life will be as dull as the town.

But in spite of her awkward manner and low expectations, she finds that her new classmates are drawn to this pale, dark-haired new girl in town. But not, it seems, the Cullen family. These five adopted brothers and sisters obviously prefer their own company and will make no exception for Bella.

Bella is convinced that Edward Cullen in particular hates her, but she feels a strange attraction to him, although his hostility makes her feel almost physically ill. He seems determined to push her away - until, that is, he saves her life from an out of control car.

Bella will soon discover that there is a very good reason for Edward's coldness. He, and his family, are vampires - and he knows how dangerous it is for others to get too close.

New Moon

Product Description

I stuck my finger under the edge of the paper and jerked it under the tape. 'Shoot,' I muttered when the paper sliced my finger. A single drop of blood oozed from the tiny cut. It all happened very quickly then. 'No!' Edward roared ... Dazed and disorientated, I looked up from the bright red blood pulsing out of my arm - and into the fevered eyes of the six suddenly ravenous vampires.

For Bella Swan, there is one thing more important than life itself: Edward Cullen. But being in love with a vampire is more dangerous than Bella ever could have imagined.

Edward has already rescued Bella from the clutches of an evil vampire but now, as their daring relationship threatens all that is near and dear to them, they realise their troubles may just be beginning ...

Breaking Dawn

Product Description

Twilight tempted the imagination . . . New Moon made readers thirsty for more . . . Eclipse turned the saga into a worldwide phenomenon . . . And now - the book that everyone has been waiting for . . . Breaking Dawn.

In the much anticipated fourth book in Stephenie Meyer's love story, questions will be answered and the fate of Bella and Edward will be revealed.

From the Back Cover

When you loved the one who was killing you, it left you no options. How could you run, how could you fight, when doing so would hurt that beloved one? If your life was all you had to give, how could you not give it? If it was someone you truly loved? To be irrevocably in love with a vampire is both fantasy and nightmare woven into a dangerously heightened reality for Bella Swan.

Pulled in one direction by her intense passion for Edward Cullen, and in another by her profound connection to werewolf Jacob Black, she has endured a tumultuous year of temptation, loss and strife to reach the ultimate turning point. Her imminent choice to either join the dark but seductive world of immortals or pursue a fully human life has become the thread from which the fate of two tribes hangs. Now that Bella has made her decision, a startling chain of unprecedented events is about to unfold with potentially devastating and unfathomable consequences.

Just when the frayed strands of Bella's life – first discovered in Twilight, then scattered and torn in New Moon and Eclipse – seem to heal and knit together, could they be destroyed ... forever?

So, many of you will have already read this series and think that I must have been living under a bushel to take this long to get around to talking about them! But seriously, I did listen to the first two novels back in 2009, it's just taken a little longer to get to the last two in the series, so I thought I would listen to them all back to back.  A Twilight Marathon ~ you might say, and as I've only seen the first two movies (after I'd experienced the books) I've been able to have an untainted view of the books, instead of the Hollywood interpretation.

I really enjoyed the way Miss Meyer made up her own rules about vampires, it was a refreshing change to have them walking around in daylight hours, rather than being night stalkers only.  The entire series is an enjoyable journey for the reader, I have read many reviews on many websites, the good, the bad and the sometimes very ugly, however I am one for making up my own mind.

Apart from a tad too many 'long moments' and 'incredulous looks' and much 'chagrin' ~  if you read/listen without judgement and just enjoy the plot unfolding against many, many dilemmas, threats, emotional upheaval and the constant threat of danger, I think these books are most enjoyable, maybe not everyones cup of tea, but still most entertaining.  You have to keep, in my case listening, just to see what happens next and isn't that all part of a good book, a page turner.

Miss Meyer did a great job in the fact that her books are World Wide Bestsellers and that she has evoked such a mammoth response from such a vast and varied audience.  So I think she did a truly fabulous job, love it or hate it, Miss Meyer and her Twilight Saga conquered the world! Kudo's to her.

If you haven't read these books, you should, because I think you would be missing out on a vital part of our literary history in the 21st century by ignoring them.

I laughed so much at this picture!

Zombie Kitteh Wants To NOM Your Threadz

Spring has sprung - almost!

The weather has been a little questionable to say the least over the last 3 weeks, hail, sleet, endless rain and biting cold.  It has been quite shocking after the unexpected warmth of March which reached temperatures of up to 19c and was the warmest March since records began.

Anyway, I went for a walk a couple of days ago, in between the driving rain and hail. And I managed to get a picture of the bluebells and wood anemones.  Usually there is a blanket of bluebells covering the woodland floor, but this year they have been rather sparse, but even so, I thought I would share a few pictures with my readers, especially for those of you who live in other climes around the world, you can now see the same little bit of pretty English countryside in the spring time that I do.

Enjoy the scenery, until next time...

Time for the Weekly Cuteness!

I think it's that time again when we all need a bit of cuteness in our lives... after a couple of weeks of beautiful Spring weather, the winds have changed and we are headed back to the arctic just in time for Easter! (Well Easter just wouldn't be the same if it wasn't freezing, raining, windy and bleak! NOT!)

So to ease the oncoming weather assault, I've chosen a few pictures to lift the spirits...

So this weeks Cuteness is called:

Cats, Flowers and Gardens and features: Snowie, Amber and Basil

Let's hope that the sunny warm weather will return soon.

Making Money by Terry Pratchett

Making Money by Terry Pratchett

Product Description from http://www.amazon.co.uk

It's an offer you can't refuse.

It's a job for life. But, as former con-man Moist von Lipwig is learning, the life is not necessarily for long.
The Chief Cashier is almost certainly a vampire. There's something nameless in the cellar (and the cellar itself is pretty nameless), it turns out that the Royal Mint runs at a loss. A 300 year old wizard is after his girlfriend, he's about to be exposed as a fraud, but the Assassins Guild might get him first. In fact lot of people want him dead
Oh. And every day he has to take the Chairman for walkies.
Everywhere he looks he's making enemies.
What he should be doing is . . . Making Money!

This is one of my favourite Disc World Novels, Moist Von Lipwig rules. In this book, the story carries on from Going Postal (another favourite of mine) where our hero moves to aid the ailing Bank of Ankh Morpork and Royal Mint, and a place where all manner of threats arise.  Cosmo Lavish is one seriously delusional man and he is out to get Moist Von Lipwig at all costs, in his attempt to end up as ruler of the city.  An army of gold Gollums, jewellery that can't be worn in daylight, the Chairman of the bank is a dog called Mr Fusspot who sleeps in the 'In' tray, a head cashier that hides a terrible dark secret, a collapsible cupboard that holds the secrets of the universe, enemies abound and challenges galore as our hero tries to Make Money.

This is a great read, it's full of fun, one liners and all manner of bizarre circumstances that makes the Disc World unique. Very comical in places and Cosmo Lavish is a great character despite all his delusions, very funny!

So if you like Terry Pratchett, give this a go, it's well worth the read.

Until next time
